I took my inspiration from many magazine covers and tried to copy some of the elements from each of them, which perfectly goes with my designing style. I creatively transforms their design into my own unique work by adding other elements to it. So my cover followed the idea of featuring a child performing some labor.

I picked that picture for my magazine cover as the emotions of the child look intense which can make the audience feel the emotions and get attracted to my magazine. The picture was a mid-shot taken from eye line. It was in the best composition so I picked it for my magazine.

The first thing I did was to make the background blur. I picked Black & White tool from the adjustment layer button. Than I make use of quick selection tool to select the kid in the middle. Afterwards, I used vector mask to remove the excess Black & White filter from the frame.

The thought behind it was to channelize the attention of the audience toward the kid in the frame and also ignore the distracting objects of the background such as a moving motorcycle.

The designing started from masthead which was previously "Shattered Dreams" and now "SHATTERED". One of the reasons behind it was that it was a long name which covers the frame too much. The size also cannot be magnified so I changed in to a shorter and precise name. The font for masthead was DM serif display. I put the masthead at background by selecting the child using selective tool and than using mask tool for the text. This gives a more professional look. After that, I wrote the magazine deck, issue number, and date of issue at the top and bottom of masthead. The font was poppin regular. I draw the two white lines "line tool" than I merged the layers of the both lines.

Afterwards, I wrote the lead article lines "STAND AGAINST CHILD LABOUR" using the poppin black because I want the font to look bold and bigger. Than I wrote the supporting lines using the poppin medium. The cover lines was on the medium right and bottom left side of the magazine cover because these were the empty spaces of the picture.

I added "1" at behind of the supporting line with font "Trajan pro 3" because it gives a perfect look on the cover according to me. Than I continued the line at the bottom. I used hyphen "-" to create some empty space and separate the text from each other. I added barcode which was downloaded from the internet. The color for the text was Mustard Yellow which was picked out using the dropper tool to make the designing looks more relevant. That is how I designed the magazine cover.

REJECTED COVER DESIGN

The yellow color was rejected as it does not look good in eyes and looks irrelevant to the main picture. Than mustard color was selected.

Note: Some of the fonts like "Monotype corsiva" and "Rockway Condensed" are originally installed in Photoshop CS6 version, so it is recommended to open the photoshop files in this version only.
